The First Trauma Cleaning Job I Never Thought I Would Take

When I first started DDQ Services in Singapore, trauma cleaning was never part of the plan.

DDQ began as a disinfection and sanitation service company, helping homes and businesses maintain hygienic and safe environments.

Most of the work involved cleaning, disinfecting, and restoring spaces after contamination or environmental issues.

At that time, I never imagined that one day I would be handling trauma cleaning in Singapore.

But sometimes life changes direction when a call comes in that you never expected.

The Call That Was Different

One day, I received a call that sounded very different from the usual service enquiries.

The voice on the phone was uncertain and distressed.

Someone had passed away in a home, and the situation had become difficult to deal with.

There were concerns about strong odour, contamination, and the condition of the property.

They asked if we could help.

At that moment, I realised something important.

In Singapore, while there are many cleaning companies, very few specialise in trauma cleaning or biohazard cleanup.

Situations involving death, decomposition, or biological contamination require a completely different approach from ordinary cleaning.

That phone call was the moment I stepped into a field I had never expected to enter.

Understanding Trauma Cleaning in Singapore

Trauma cleaning involves the professional cleaning and sanitisation of spaces affected by situations such as:

• unattended deaths

• biohazard contamination

• bodily fluids

• decomposition odours

These situations require specialised procedures, protective equipment, and careful handling to ensure the environment becomes safe again.

In Singapore, trauma cleaning situations can occur in:

• HDB flats

• condominiums

• rental apartments

• landed properties

Because Singapore is a densely populated city, proper cleanup is important not only for the affected home but also for neighbouring units.

The Reality of the First Job

Walking into that property for the first time was a moment I will never forget.

It was quiet.

The kind of quiet that tells you something difficult has happened.

The air carried the unmistakable smell of decomposition — something that normal cleaning products cannot simply remove.

That was when the reality of trauma cleaning became clear to me.

This was not just about cleaning.

It was about handling a situation with respect, professionalism, and responsibility.

The goal was to restore the space so that the family would not have to face what had happened there.

More Than Just Cleaning

People often think cleaning is about removing dirt or stains.

But trauma cleaning is different.

It involves dealing with environments affected by biohazard contamination, where safety and proper sanitisation are essential.

More importantly, trauma cleaning is about helping people during one of the most difficult moments in their lives.

Families are already dealing with grief and shock.

The last thing they should have to worry about is cleaning the environment left behind.
